Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine, TCM for short, is an age-old form of medicine that prompts your own body’s ability to restore its natural balance. Originated in China, acupuncture has been safely used for over 2,500 years; it remains one the most widely trusted alternative therapies, and its effectiveness is continuously being proven by modern science. It uses tools such as acupuncture, ear seeds, cupping, Gua sha, nutrition, and herbs.

The intention of acupuncture is to stimulate the qi (body’s energy) movement, to remove any stagnation, to support and restore the body’s natural balanced physiology. The therapeutic effect is attained by inserting fine filiform needles into specific points on the body, which stimulate the body’s healing mechanism and influence the body’s biochemical responses. This non-chemical treatment releases the body’s natural pain killers, improves circulation, stimulates organ function, reduces inflammation, and restores harmony within the central nervous system.

Ayurveda is one of the oldest natural medicine systems that originated from India over 5,000 years ago.  Ayurvedic practitioners focus on balancing the body, mind, and soul by the use of diet, herbs, physical therapy, yoga, meditation, and other mindfulness practices. Ayurveda helps us understand our body at a deeper level and how to better flow through our bodies and the environment around us.

Ayurveda believes our bodies are made up of all of the five elements of the universe. There is a unique balance of each of these elements that create our constitution or dosha as we call it in  Ayurveda. The observation of our dosha leads to an individualized diagnosis and treatment plan.  Ayurveda is a very sophisticated, yet simple medicine that uses questioning, pulse taking and tongue observations to create a diagnosis. The goal of Ayurveda is to teach us how to live in a balanced and natural state.
